Men’s Guide to Buying a Girdle
This entry is filed under girdle alterations, how to alter a girdle.
Let’s face it, for guys who want to wear mens girdles, this is not something that comes up in everyday conversation. Thankfully, there are lots of resources on the internet in how to buy a girdle for men. There is a niche out there for men wearing support undergarments and thankfully, this market is expanding.
Men have lots of reasons to wear a girdle: back support, losing weight, it just makes them feel good. So here’s a guide for men who want to buy a girdle for the first time.
While there are more and more online resources to buy a men’s girdle, the same can not be said perhaps for where you live. You might have to go to a specialty store that focuses on corsets, bustiers, and girdles for women and see if they have a section for men. Failing that, you might want to try to buy a woman’s girdle and either altar it or wear it as is off the shelf. Obviously, due to the anatomical differences between men and women, the better option would be to find someone who can do the alterations for you or perhaps you can do it yourself.
Here are a few tips on altering a woman’s girdle. Women have naturally wider hips than a man in order to give birth. Men have narrower hips and are more in line with the size of their waists with the waist to hips difference around 5-8 inches. Women on the other hand have a waist to hips difference of up to 10 inches but a thinner trunk. If a man buys a girdle to fit his natural waist line, then the hips will be roomier and this would not give the desired effect or a clean pant line. If he buys the girdle according to the width of his hips, then it will be too tight around the stomach and feel uncomfortable. What to do?
To alter a woman’s girdle for a man to wear, you can either choose to let it out or take it in along the seams. Generally speaking, it is easier to let seams out than to take the seams back in so this is the best approach for alterations. A general knowledge of sewing is all it takes.
If you cannot do the alterations yourself or feel uncomfortable approaching someone else to do it for you, you can always make do with a woman’s girdle off the shelf without alterations. If that is your choice, then buy a size that is one size smaller than your natural waist size.
However, before you go through all that trouble of altering or wearing a woman’s girdle, make sure you have exhausted all online resources of finding a girdle for men.
